Iron: What foods and in what quantities they contain?

• The recommended daily intake of iron is 30 mgr during pregnancy and 15 mg during lactation. In infants under 6 months: 6mg, and older than 6 months: 10mg. Children should consume 10mg of calcium per day.

• In preparing the table is taken into account the foods richest in iron.

• Of the foods that are not included it may not be good sources of iron as well not have any information.

• The values are for cooked or raw as the predominant form of consumption.

• It is important to note that the iron from meat is much more absorbable than the iron in plant foods.

Military doctors and Army Headquarters receive recommendations on nutrition and hydration

* Rosa M ª Ortega, Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Pharmacy, University Complutense, and Luis Serratosa, Medical Service Real Madrid offered the conferences for the training of civilian and military personnel of Army Headquarters

Tomás Pascual Sanz Institute for Nutrition and Health, invited by the head of health services from the Army Headquarters, has organized a series of conferences to improve nutrition and health education of civilian and military personnel of the center. “We move nutrition messages that directly affect the activity of the we are addressing. In this case, the development of the military exercise is very attached to the practice of physical exercise and this requires good nutrition and proper hydration,” explained leaders of the Institute.

Those attending both days were very interested by the two major topics addressed, and maintained, following the presentations, lively conversations about them.
